technical challenges

Are there any ongoing technical issues we can help each other with?

  1. My classroom computer keeps freezing while the students try to use the program. Sometimes a student will click on a word and it will take a full minute for the word to speak.

  2. In general, I have found that issues related to the program reading text need to be looked at by the ITSS working with your school. It may be a problem across text to speech programs or, as was the case at a school I was working in, a free download update that fixed the problem. I would try by making a request through the ITSS and let me know if you are not able to get it resolved. The Crick web-site can provide information to them on problem solving as well: www.cricksoft.com/us/ and then click on the Tech Support tab.

  3. Saving Clicker5 files in the lab for later use:
Just a reminder to bring a USB drive to save Clicker5 files for later use. Another way to work around the difficulties with how MCPS e-mail handles these files is to use a personal e-mail account (e.g. Yahoo, Gmail) to e-mail the files to yourself.

  4. Rochelle and I are trying to use the phrases grids. The example is different than the grid options we can find. How do we get the "word" and "connective" boxes shown in the example?

  5. For those of you have not noticed, the is a "show me" option under each category of grid templates. When you select the "show me" option, it give you a demonstration grid for how this type of template can be used.
For this example, the "word" and "connective" cells/boxes link to other grids. A student can return to the original grid after a selection is made on the "word" or connective" grid.
Just remember, any grid you are using can be modified and saved to better suite your needs. So this example grid could be saved as a different name and then you could edit the grid to meet you needs.
Alternatively, you could create to grids to link to with cells/buttons like the example.
I will plan to show this in class but feel free to remind me.
